Urgent Care for Sinus Infection

Sinusitis or sinus disease, also known as a sinus infection, is defined as inflammation, or swelling of the sinuses. When the sinus openings become blocked, or too much mucus accumulates, a sinus infection begins.

There are three main types of sinus infections. These are called acute, sub-acute, and chronic.

● An acute sinus infection lasts up to four weeks.
● Sub-acute infections last from 4 to 12 weeks.
● Chronic sinusitis can last three months or even longer.

If you suspect that you may be suffering from a sinus infection, visit Bayside Urgent Care. Our medical staff is expert at treating this and other non-life-threatening emergencies.

What are Common Causes?

There are several different causes of sinus infections, including bacteria, viruses, allergens, chemicals, or even pollutants. These infections are more common in the spring and fall, as allergens are more prominent.

These infections involve inflammation of the nasal passage. Common symptoms include:

  • Headaches

  • Congestion

  • Post-nasal drip

  • Sore throat

  • Cough

  • Fatigue

  • Nasal discharge

How Can Urgent Care Help You?

Ultimately, treatments depend on the cause of inflammation. Frequent sinus infections, or chronic sinusitis, may require evaluation and treatment by a medical professional. Antibiotics can also treat a bacterial sinus infection.

Viral sinusitis usually lasts seven to 10 days. And, it can be effectively treated with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter antihistamines, mucolytics, decongestants, or nasal sprays.

At Bayside Urgent Care, our medical professionals will perform a medical exam. And, we will ask questions to diagnose and determine the best treatment for you. Depending on your situation, we will offer medical help to relieve your symptoms. We may prescribe antibiotics, decongestants, and other drugs to help relieve the pain and swelling in your sinuses.
